//Edit: WTF?! Ayaw gumana ng lightbox ko.. I apologize if the pictures aren’t showing up in their usual manner, all fancy zooming in a grey box, will try to fix later//  It’s actually working fine in different computer, just not the one im using right now.

I haven’t really been following the Winter Olympics in Vancouver like I used to when I first knew about it in 2002. Yes, I didn’t know there was winter olympics until I actually get to see a coverage on tv.  You can’t really blame me, can you? I came from a very humid country and back then, we (or actually, I, for that matter) only know about “the” olympics (Summer Olympics) in which they showcase all sports imagineable except for the ones done in the snow and/or ice.

Anyway, back in 2002 when I was still working at a gas station, I remember gushing to my co-workers about this guy I saw on tv skating on ice like there was no tomorrow. His name was Apolo Anton Ohno.

He was always wearing a bandana over his helmet. And boy, he was fast! Then, the crazy-little-fangirl in me emerged. Searched him on the internet. Read his bios and most news about him. Watched almost all his race during that time. After the olympics, I tried to watch all his apperances on different tv shows. I remembered him appearing on Rosie O’Donnell’s show where he was given a Saturn SUV. Yeah! Crazy, remember? But after that, I forgot about Apolo Ohno. I didn’t even watched him when he joined the Dancing with the Stars and came on top as the champion and won that awful-looking dancing ball for a prize.

Fast forward to today, Winter Olympics is once again being covered on TV. I’ve seen Ohno raced last night and I remembered how good he really was. It was a short heat, 500 meters. Quarterfinals. There were 5 of them. I don’t know who he was competing with. I just recall he was trailing at the 3rd spot but as soon as he found that opening right about the final lap, he made his move and finished on top . And if I remember it right, he likes this approach so much — outsmart his opponents at the finish. And it actually works most of the time.

He may not be the greatest winter olympian yet , but hey! He’s still, by far, the most decorated winter olympian with 7 medals dangling around his neck. Now that’s saying something right?!

And I think he’s still one the hottest icebunnies in the olympics. Oh, and have you seen Sven Kramer (click his name and find out) yet? *drooling*
